Standard equipment. Connected service.

Hardware that fits the way your restaurant works.

Keep your reliable router. Choose compatible tablets. Add a Windows Hybrid computer for eligible local POS and HETable continuity, then connect the printing and payment equipment your restaurant needs.

  • No proprietary HospiEdge registers
  • Start with fewer shared devices
  • Add dedicated stations as you grow

One network. Clear roles for each device.

Use your existing reliable business router. Tablets use Wi-Fi for cloud access; the Windows Hybrid computer uses wired Ethernet. Add a switch only when you need more wired ports.

How the restaurant connects
Cloud applications and payment providerInternet → business router / Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi → station tablets

Cloud access needs internet. Tablets do not fail over through the Hybrid computer.

Ethernet → Windows Hybrid

Supported POS and HETable continue locally on this computer during an internet interruption.

Supported network → receipt printer

Printer drawer port → cash drawer. Food labels use a separate printer and configured connection.

Essential Setup

For a smaller restaurant that combines station roles.

  • POS/Register
  • Host/Table
  • Kitchen KDS

A smaller restaurant can combine station roles and begin with fewer tablets. Additional stations can be added as the operation grows.

7 core tablets

Full-System Setup

For a restaurant using dedicated HospiEdge stations throughout the operation.

  • Register POS 1
  • Register POS 2
  • Host/Table
  • Server/Manager
  • Bar
  • Kitchen KDS
  • Expo

Dedicated stations provide the clearest workflow during high-volume service. Restaurants may combine roles and use fewer devices where the service model allows.

Plan this setup

These are starting plans, not required device counts. Cloud-only use needs compatible browser devices and internet; a Windows computer is optional for cloud-only use. Add a Windows Hybrid computer or supported mini PC for local POS and HETable continuity.

Add a tablet where the work needs its own screen.

Start with approximately three, five or seven core tablets and combine roles where service allows. A larger restaurant may use 7–10 or more tablets. Ten tablets are not required.

  • Grill
  • Sauté
  • Fry
  • Pantry
  • Pizza
  • Beverage
  • Expo
  • Pickup
  • Catering
  • Additional bars
  • Additional registers
  • Additional servers or service stations

Servers may share tablets or use compatible phones for appropriate browser workflows. Fixed register, host and kitchen positions benefit from mounted tablets.

Your complete equipment checklist.

Choose quantities for your station plan. Keep this list with your installation notes, or use your browser’s Print command.

  • Compatible tablets, stable mounts or stands, chargers and spare cables
  • Reliable business router, Wi-Fi coverage and internet
  • Optional Gigabit switch and enough Ethernet cables for wired equipment
  • For Hybrid: dedicated Windows computer, wired Ethernet, ventilation and secure placement
  • Supported receipt printer, matching paper and receipt width when physical receipts are needed
  • Printer-driven cash drawer and the correct drawer cable when handling cash
  • Separate food-label printer and matching label stock when using Label
  • Payment equipment matched to the provider, merchant and approved setup
  • Optional UPS battery backup and spare device for the restaurant’s continuity plan
  • Appropriate storage and a separate configured recovery plan; an unconfigured external drive does not create automatic backups
Starting specifications for a Hybrid computer

A modern four-core x64 Windows 11 computer, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD is a starting recommendation. Higher-volume restaurants need setup sizing. Keep the computer on wired Ethernet and reliable power.

Stripe and Square guest payments.

HospiEdge software subscriptions are billed separately through Stripe. For restaurant guest payments, your business owns its supported Stripe or Square merchant account and receives its own payouts. Stripe setup is available; Square customer activation is not currently offered. Provider processing fees and availability are separate from your HospiEdge subscription.

Stripe S700, S710 and BBPOS WisePOS E have available countertop setup paths with exact-device validation during setup. Square Terminal and lower-cost mobile readers are not currently offered for customer use. Provider choice and individual device availability are separate decisions.

Compare payment devices and availability
A place for each connection

Receipts, labels and the drawer do different jobs.

Choose each printer’s interface and profile before ordering. Ethernet is a practical choice for a fixed receipt station; paper width, drawer cable and label stock must match the equipment.

Full guest receipts

A supported Epson TM-series Ethernet/ePOS-Print printer produces the complete HospiEdge guest check and receipt, with receipt reprints through the configured workflow.

  • Connect the printer to the restaurant network.
  • Use matching receipt paper and the correct receipt width.
  • Keep Ethernet connected for a fixed restaurant station.

Cash handling

The APG-style printer-driven cash drawer connects to the supported receipt printer’s drawer port with the correct cable.

  • The drawer does not connect directly to the tablet or router.
  • Full cash operation pairs a receipt printer with a drawer.
  • A cashless restaurant using digital receipts may not need a drawer.

Food-prep and date labels

Label uses a separate printer and matching stock. A Brother QL-style printer can use its configured desktop, browser or HTML-driver route. Add Label when the restaurant needs it.

  • Labels do not require an expensive Zebra printer.
  • Browser printing and approved QZ HTML/pixel profiles are available.
  • Use the printer’s configured driver and media size.

ZPL as an alternative

A compatible Zebra/ZPL printer can use the configured QZ raw ZPL route. Select the printer profile and its actual USB, network or supported connection.

Brother QL driver profiles and raw ZPL profiles are different choices; use the one matched to your printer.

Kitchens work on KDS

Kitchen, bar and expo normally use KDS tablets. Share a main kitchen display or add a display to each production station. A separate kitchen-ticket printer is not required for a KDS workflow.

Equipment drawings show form factors and connection choices. Interfaces vary by model; use the printer profile and provider-supported configuration matched to the chosen device. Manufacturer names describe equipment compatibility and do not imply endorsement.

Know what stays local.

With Hybrid enabled, supported POS and HETable workflows continue on the installed Windows computer during an internet interruption. Separate tablets use the cloud and need internet; they do not connect to the local service during an outage.

Internet is required for card payments, remote tablet stations and connected cloud services. When card service is interrupted, check the recorded payment outcome before retrying. Cash or an open check can keep service moving without recording card details.

Keep a separate protected recovery plan for local business data. Optional external storage at the restaurant does not protect hosted application records; confirm their separate recovery arrangements with support.

Hardware questions, answered.

Do I need proprietary HospiEdge hardware?

No. HospiEdge works with supported standard computers, tablets, printers, cash drawers, and payment readers.

Can I use my existing router?

Yes, provided it offers reliable coverage and enough connectivity for the equipment used by the restaurant. Add a Gigabit network switch when more wired ports are needed.

How many tablets do I need?

A smaller restaurant can combine roles and begin with approximately three tablets. A typical full-service setup may use five. A dedicated-station setup uses seven core tablets, with more for individual kitchen stations or servers when needed.

Which stations can use tablets?

Register, host, kitchen, expo, bar, server, manager, pickup, and individual production stations can use an assigned tablet. Choose the screens that match each person’s permissions and work.

Do I need a separate tablet for every kitchen station?

No. Use one main kitchen display or assign separate KDS displays to grill, sauté, fry, pantry, pizza, or other production stations.

Can servers use phones?

Compatible browser-capable phones can be used for appropriate server and manager workflows. Fixed register, host, and kitchen stations normally benefit from mounted tablets.
